Our tribute to our brother-in-law Ivan Smith. When we travelled back to Australia from England a highlight of our trip was to see Ivan & Barbara.
He was such a character, funny, kind and we had lots of laughs.
We will treasure our fond memories of two very special people Ivan and Barbara .
When Ivan passed away a piece of Australia went. A wonderful person, country boy at heart, loved his poetry and music . He was the main character at the parties and family gatherings. A special guy who will be missed and will be with a special girl now our Barbara.

To my dear, lovely funny uncle Ivan you where certainly a real character with amazing stories I could listen to you all day. You and Barbara will now be laughing and chatting back with each other. We have a lost a great uncle and will cherish all the memories, including some videos of you telling your poem. I will always remember the way Barb looked at you and there was a fly buzzing around. It was quiet we all listened to every word. I will never forgot it, and our chats, just 2 weeks ago about beer, Corina and life in general. Lots of love hugs and kisses from Siobhan and Corina xxxxx

I am 1 of 53 SMITH cousins of Ivan’s father ‘Paddy’. When Ivan 1st moved to Melbourne he initially stayed with my parents; Fred & Lett in Preston.
I have many Robinvale memories where I would spend some of my Xmas holidays. Farewell Ivan, fantastic to have known you.

My dear Uncle Ivan, I’m sorry I couldn’t be there in person today. I will always remember your stories, life advice and humour. I appreciate all the letters that you and Aunty Barb used to write to me when I was young…. particularly the ones that featured pictures of gorilla’s cut out of the newspaper or magazines saying my dad was in the paper again! You really knew how to wind me up! Over the years you have counselled me on footy, finances and boys – always with your high expectations, wanting the best for me in life and doing it in your direct, humorous and witty way.
Together again with Aunty Barb and her marvellous apple and sour cream slice. Love and miss you both.

Deepest sympathy to the Smith family on the loss of Ivan. I met Ivan through the Fitzroy Past Players & Officials Association and it was always a pleasure to meet up & chat with him at social functions. He will be greatly missed by the members but has left us with fond memories. Have you all in my thoughts & prayers at this sad time.

Remember many good times at the Box Hill Golf Club. You were a good Captain and did much for the Club and its members.

To a wonderful person you will sadly be missed.
