SCHERGER, Joyce (née Berry)

Born on August 22, 1928. Passed away December 13, 2022.

Joyce (Joy) Scherger, beloved sister of Edna (deceased), Shirley, and Margot; mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother, passed away peacefully at Regis Ontario Nursing Home in Mildura on 13 December, and was cremated at North West Funerals on 21 December, with close family and friends to farewell her.

Joyce, Joy, Joycee Scherger, the gifted artist will be remembered as described by Anna Newton, her Bradford Exchange artwork publisher:

“I never have any problem finding different inspirations for my paintings. There are so many things to illustrate. There is no end of beauty in the world.” Joy Scherger.

“There is no end to the extraordinary talent of Joy Scherger. Her work has been described as being delicate, gentle, romantic, nostalgic, whimsical and always beautiful. Born in Melbourne, Joy began her career after studying drawing at the prestigious Melbourne Art Gallery. From these formative years, she has never looked back, establishing herself through prints, calendars and greeting cards, as one of Australia’s most versatile artists. Preferring the delicacy offered by watercolours, Joy’s esteemed works can be found gracing homes across Australia and overseas.

In 1997, a vibrant working partnership began between Joy and Bradford Exchange, the world’s most trusted authority in fine arts and collectibles. Joy’s artistry found a new expression in the Jewels of Nature plate collection, which transformed Joy’s sumptuous Fairy Wren imagery in the luminous glow of fine porcelain. The gallery became one of that year’s most sought-after collections and began a relationship that continues to this very day. Since the release of this landmark collection, Joy’s art has featured on a host of collectible forms, such as home décor, sculpture, apparel and accessories, each one bringing colour and light into the lives of collectors throughout Australia and worldwide.

In 2011, Joy was inducted into The Bradford Exchange Hall of Fame. This is a rare honour, only conferred upon those artists who have made a significant contribution to the world of collectible art.

Joy Scherger’s art is truly a transformative experience and to this very day, Joy’s portfolio of artistic treasures continues to win new fans who appreciate the richness of her vision, the precision of her skill and the purity of her style.”

A Memorial and Celebration of her creative life will be held in the New Year.

  4. Farewell sweet Joy.. I knew we were simpatico the minute you came into my clinic 15 years ago, with your tiny sore feet. We connected not just because of your corns but over our mutual love of fairy wrens, cats, and our belief in garden fairies.. of course..
You told me once you had seen fairies as a child, and I believe you.
I miss you and your cheeky smile but will never forget you..
Thank you for the beautiful paintings I look at them every day and smile, they make me happy..
It was a blessing to have known you.
    All my love
