A great friend of my late dad Wal. Very clever and helpful man. Unfortunately I can’t make the funeral as I’m away at a rally with one of the Panther motorcycles Doug helped my dad restore. Thoughts are with his family.

Uncle Dilly is remembered in my memories for his gentle and joyful character, the jokes and his contagious big smile. It was at times of his visits to North Queensland on occasion of sorrow mostly, honouring and celebrating the lives of his siblings with grace and strength. We carry such wonderful memories of our times with Uncle Doug. His flair for recounting events from his youth with Mum and their siblings and his larrikin sense of humour were priceless. Only knew Doug for a short time but will always remember the infectious smile and the enthusiasm when telling the few stories I heard was a treat to listen too. Shame I didn’t get to hear a few more of those stories. lovely bloke with a heart of gold and an infectious personality will be sorely missed was always a pleasure to talk too.

From my days of being a teenager working with Douge at Blain’s Construction to riding motorcycles, Douge has always been a respectful, polite gentleman and mentor. His humour will never be forgotten. Will be sadly missed and remembered.

So sorry to read of Doug’s passing a great friend and will be sadly missed by Harold and myself condolences to the family especially to Kelvin , enjoy your motor bikes in heaven dear friend,and the fishing we all enjoyed in Karumba
